Why ASTECC?
As the founder of ASTECC, I had a clear and focused vision.
Coming from the UK, I was indoctrinated into the world of hierarchy and tradition—a recognition that we stand on the shoulders of others who have come before us, and who have shared great wisdom and insight. Many of them were themselves recipients of knowledge from teachers who bestowed their wisdom upon them.
The Ancient Roots of Healing
If we really look back at our arena of health and wellbeing, we know it started so long ago. Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, advocated food as medicine and fever as a cure. Bath therapies are commonly attributed to Roman culture, and rightly so, as they introduced the art of bathing into every region they conquered and ruled. However, we know that prior to the Romans, the Ancient Greek culture also advocated bathing.
Kneipp’s name is synonymous with cold water bathing and effusions. Vincent Pressnitz was a big part of his inspiration, but it was a severely injured wild stag that inspired Pressnitz. He witnessed an animal’s instinct to heal itself by immersing its wounds in cold running water.
So we can go back to the innate wisdom of the ancients with their herbs, grasses and flowers, their relationship with animals and earth elements, the empirical knowledge of nature’s healing power within certain plants—the plants that aided spiritual quests and those that were life threatening. Today we have evolved, we have the science behind the knowledge. Our ancient wisdom is no longer necessary, but what is amazing is that the remedies and conclusions are similar, and the widespread expression of the art of healing is grounded in both ancient traditions and modern technology.
Modern Trends vs. Ancient Wisdom
In our fast-paced life, we witness the “what next syndrome”—ice baths are trending today. Right now we are in a culture of extremes. While the Nordic peoples have been plunging in cold icy waters after a sauna for decades, the trend of immersing and staying for minutes in a cold water bath is not recommended for everyone, and the question is: what is being accomplished? There is a science behind healing, and in this part of the human journey we are lucky to be able to reference the scientific reactions to specific treatments.
Our Approach: Honoring the Lineage
Why do I write this as an introduction? Because we at ASTECC have no problem claiming the lineage of our teachers. Whether MLD, Connective Tissue, Aromatherapy, Reflex therapy, Hydro/thalassotherapy and our elemental nature—none of it can we put our name to. We are purely the messengers, and in delivering the message, while we may have identified a more succinct and focused application (such as in our CTM Natural Facelift), we stay true to the methodology and information of the discipline.
The intention of ASTECC is to bring together the treatments that collectively promote Autonomic Nervous System regulation and the flow of the vital fluids which course through our body, delivering nutrients and ensuring waste elimination. This is more relevant than ever as we bear witness to the ever-increasing anxiety of our society.
Science Supporting Ancient Wisdom
The discoveries of science today do not lessen the value of our work but rather strengthen it. The conversation regarding the Gut-Brain axis and the Vagus Nerve only supports the teaching and application of our techniques. Our treatments promote parasympathetic activity which in turn aids digestion, sleep, recovery and regeneration. The conversation around G-Lymphatics does the same. Our treatments to the neck enhance the clearing of pathways that would allow the fluid from the brain to enter our recycling system.
Our deeply regenerative Aroma Reflex therapy promotes cellular hydration and deep relaxation while reducing anxious thoughts.
Our Mission
We are the messengers and we are here to honor the traditions, the elders that have pioneered the path of health and beauty, and serve our students, clients and the profession.
Practice is a powerful word and intention keeps us on purpose.
