Here we go again, Full circle back to the beginning.
My journey in health and beauty began in 1978 in London, where I received my first formal training.
One of the most impactful moments of that time came through a lecture at The Royal College of Acupuncture titled: “Death Begins in the Colon.”
Believe me, it got my attention.
A Lecture That Changed Everything
The lecture dove into the anatomy of the colon, focusing on the flexures and how they connect to different organs and meridians. One story has stayed with me ever since: the autopsy of a 40-year-old man who had died in an accident revealed his colon weighed a shocking 36 lbs, despite no history of constipation or digestive complaints.
That lecture made a deep impression, one that I’ve shared countless times with students of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD).
Because it’s not just about digestion.
Colon health is crucial to overall well-being, as I would learn through personal experience, especially breast health.
Bernard Jensen’s Influence and the Forgotten Wisdom
Years later, while studying Bernard Jensen’s work, I was reminded of that early lesson. Jensen emphasized colon cleansing in nearly all his protocols and was a strong proponent of high colonics. He achieved remarkable results where conventional medicine had failed.
It’s almost ironic that, decades later, functional medicine is finally embracing what was once considered fringe. Thanks to modern research, we now understand much more about the gut microbiome and its effects on systemic health.
Pain, Memory, and the Colon-Breast Connection
But it wasn’t until a deeply personal experience that I truly internalized the link between the colon and breast health.
After giving birth to my youngest, Leah, I experienced excruciating breast pain, years after previously suffering from abscesses during breastfeeding. The pain was so severe, I couldn’t bear even the touch of a bedsheet, much less hold my child.
A visit to the doctor led to a painfully traumatic exam with a specialist (who, I later discovered, also castrated bullocks – perhaps a better fit for his bedside manner). His conclusion? “There’s nothing wrong.”
Luckily, a compassionate female physician promised to refer me to someone else. But the wait would be three weeks. I was devastated.
Then I remembered that lecture. “Death begins in the colon.”
Self-Healing Through Colon Cleansing
I began a colon cleanse that very day.
The results? Dramatic.
Within three days, the pain was completely gone.
I canceled my specialist appointment, and when I shared my experience with my doctor, she was stunned and fascinated.
Fast Forward to 1995: A New Lesson Through MLD
By 1995, I was teaching MLD full-time in the U.S. during a nine-day spa training intensive. Midway through, the familiar pain returned. A colon cleanse wasn’t possible—it would sideline me for days. So, I opted for 30-minute MLD treatments focused directly on the breast during lunch breaks.
The results were astonishing.
Elimination had begun that evening. The pain was 80% gone by the next day, and after a second session, it had completely cleared.
Which Is Easier?
A 3-day colon cleanse or two 30-minute MLD treatments?
For me, there’s no contest.
Since then, MLD has been my go-to for flare-ups. I’ve even self-administered it. And in every MLD workshop I’ve taught, I encourage students to treat the breast before approaching abdominal issues like constipation.
Why MLD and Colon Cleansing Work So Well Together
Treating the chest and abdomen together has consistently delivered powerful results. I’ve experienced it myself and witnessed it in countless others.
That’s why I was thrilled when Cathy Shea, a renowned colon hydrotherapist, invited me to teach MLD at one of her colon cleansing workshops.
Together, we offer a powerful inside-out approach to support healing and homeostasis in the body.
Cathy teaches both in Florida and at the clinic of the famous Dr. Thomas Rau in Switzerland.
